We are proud to have on-site kitchens, meaning all meals are planned, home-cooked and prepared fresh daily on our premises.
Laundry is also done on-site, with dedicated laundry staff and laundries. Each resident item is tagged on arrival so that belongings always stay secure.
Every care unit has its own lounge spaces and dining areas, complimented by weekly social programmes and activities such as bingo, quiz nights, karaoke. We also work closely with local groups and communities to host special events regularly at each home.
Most bedrooms are en-suite and all can be decorated to our residents’ individual tastes. We can even make “mirror” images of home layouts to help those who may struggle in unfamiliar surroundings. We do provide TV and bedding but these can all be personal items brought from home too.
We even have our own on-site hair salon at The Sands, perfect for a regular pamper or a fresh new look. Hairdressing, chiropody, and optional excursions are available at an additional cost.
Each site has its own gardens, with The Sands Meadows benefitting from a large, communal space in nature.
Most bedrooms at The Sands Care Home are en-suite and can be decorated to the individual style of the resident. Most things are catered for here but our ladies and gentlemen are free to bring as many personal possessions as they would like to make their room feel homely. This includes fixtures and fittings from home.
Every floor at The Sands has its own bath and shower room, fully supported with specialist equipment for those who may need it. Most of the rooms are also en-suite.
Our Activities Co-ordinator plans a full week of entertainment for our residents. Lots of these take place in the lounge spaces but we also have a dedicated activities room, which features a special dementia-focused “magic table”, where they can join in an interactive light and music show.
Each of our 4 care units has its own dining room. Home-cooked meals are served throughout the day. Residents are able to sit and relax, enjoying our beautiful views over Morecambe bay.
The lounge spaces on each floor are fully equipped with comfortable seating and tables and chairs for snacks/activities. Each room has an array of activity equipment, including elderly/dementia-appropriate games, TVs and areas to read/do puzzles.
Our kitchen team prepare all meals freshly on the premises, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. All meals are nutritionally balanced and individual dietary requirements and care plans are always catered for.
We offer as much independence to our residents as possible, which includes venturing out of the home for their usual appointments and leisure trips, if this is something they would normally do at home. We have the most amazing coastline right on our door step for walks or simply watching the world.
Residents are welcome to visit our on-site hairdresser for a trim, a chat, and even the odd singalong with Martin, our visiting stylist. Appointments are available weekly and are charged separately.
All laundry is done on-site with a dedicated team, being both washed and ironed. Buttons are sewn into residents’ clothing to ensure everything goes back to the correct room.
We have invested in a new decking area at the rear of the care home. Residents are able to sit out and enjoy the fresh air and can also make the most of any gardening skills in our communal garden.
All bedrooms are en-suite and combine safety with comfort. All the treasures of home can be brought to us and we can even mimic room layouts to look as familiar as possible.
Residents can make use of our shower and bathrooms, with full support of staff and specialist equipment where required.
For those moments where residents may need more quiet away from the main group, we also have a quiet room that they are able to sit peacefully or take part in a calm activity.
Meals are served throughout the day in our dedicated dining room, with support where required.
The main lounge features two large seating areas, with comfortable seating and tables for activities, as well as fabulous views into the gardens. A TV is also in the room for those who would like to watch it.
The meals are made in line with individual requirements and care plans by our kitchen team from a weekly planned menu.
Laundry is carefully washed, dried and ironed by our dedicated staff and identified to each resident by careful tagging.
The Meadows has the most beautiful gardens, with quiet spaces to sit and watch nature and areas where residents can get involved in gardening.
Regular checks, a key worker and daily contact with family and loved ones makes a daunting experience into a reassuring one.
From understanding newspaper preferences to decorating a room so it looks like home, we make sure familiarity and personal choice is weaved into every part of our residents’ experience.
We don’t have set visiting times here at our homes, we think it’s important for our residents to be able to treat this as home, and that includes seeing loved ones when they can.
