Turning a daunting experience into an enjoyable one

We know what a worrying time it can be moving a loved one into a home. It’s a day that none of us wants to come. It’s our job to take all of that worry away from you and let you trust us to take care of the people in the world most precious to you.

Our welcome includes understanding all we can about our new resident. Their likes, dislikes, food preferences, medical requirements and preferred hobbies.

We also make time to chat about their history, family and career.  We genuinely love to spend the time to hear about their lives and it’s amazing what we learn!

Welcoming you into our care - our process:

Pre-Admission Assessment
This is always undertaken prior to admission. This takes into account all of the important things we need to know about your care. From cognition levels to hospital admissions and ongoing illnesses. Dietary information and physical ability area also assessed.

This ensures we have everything in place for a safe transition to our care.
Arranging Your Transportation
Depending on whether you are leaving a private residence or a hospital setting, we can make all the necessary arrangements for safe transportation of your loved one.

We are in regular contact with all local hospitals and know the procedures inside-out for moving from their care into ours.
Welcome to The Sands
Hopefully you will already have met our team but, if not, our doors are always open to drop in for a look around. We love nothing more than introducing you to our teams, residents and living facilities here at the homes.

Once here you can be assured of a friendly and warm welcome, especially during more unexpected transitions, where reducing stress for our residents is a priority.
Meet your key worker
Every resident is assigned a key worker, to ensure consistency and continuity in their care.

Having a friendly, familiar face in the early days of settling in is so important.
View your room
Most of our rooms are en-suite here at The Sands care homes and have fabulous views of Morecambe or Hest Bank.

To help residents feel truly at home, we always encourage personal touches, whether that’s favourite photos, soft furnishings, or small items of furniture that bring comfort and familiarity.
Settle in with our support.
Once settled then we support our residents to make the most of all opportunities available to them here at our homes.

We help make introductions to other residents and gentle introductions to our comfortable spaces and activities.

This is all at the pace of the resident so that they feel in control of the process.  Sometimes a moment of quiet is just as important as a singalong!

Common Questions

We know that choosing care is a big decision. Below are some of the questions we’re asked most often—from what to bring, to how payments work. If there’s anything else you’d like to ask, just get in touch.

What can I bring with me?

Almost everything is provided here with us, including bedding and televisions.  The only thing you will need to bring are any toiletries.  We welcome residents bringing their own home comforts, ornaments, furniture, lighting and even televisions.  Subscriptions can be carried over to the home.

How will my care plan and medication be transferred over?

You will be able to keep your own GP and we will ensure that all care plans, medications and resident requirements are transferred over through our Pre-Admission Assessment and Admissions Procedure Checklist. Things like oxygen, support equipment and daily medical needs are all transferred over into our on-site care plans, overseen by our teams of trained medical staff.

What happens if I'm leaving from hospital?

We are familiar with handling hospital discharges and can navigate this on behalf of the resident, ensuring that families are kept informed of transfers and settling in processes at all times.

What is included?

All expected care requirements such as meals, drinks, laundry, personal care, medical care and daily support needs are included, as well as hairdressing, chiropody and on-site activities and excursions.

How do payments work?

We can support you in understanding and implementing payment structures through care funding options.  Take a look at our Funding Options Process in more detail.
